Need More Crazy Mayors
================

After reading what one of your subscribers wrote about having to
bring their own bag to a grocery store in China, I thought I
would let you know what is happening a lot closer to home.

I live south of the city of Montreal in Quebec, Canada. A number
of years ago a mayor in another small suburb announced his town
would be "plastic bag free" a number of months later. Initially,
it sounded crazy. People would have to bring their own bags to
go shopping!

Well, years have passed and now it is not just that suburb. The
majority of us now carry reusable bags into our grocery stores,
pharmacies and even the big box stores. What seemed like a crazy
idea has now become a way of life. Should customers forget
their bags or not have enough bags, the option of buying another
reusable bag at 99 cents or paying 5 cents for a plastic bag is
there.

Recently a member of the family went to New York City on a trip.
She realized how ingrained this practice was, when she saw her
family member bringing her own bags and cashiers stating the
MUST give their customers a store bag. To her horror they
generally double bagged all purchases.

Perhaps if enough people see these emails, the idea can catch on
in many more towns and cities.

Thanks for MountainWings; I have enjoyed it for years now.
