They Don't Give A Toot
=================

We walked the streets in Barcelona Spain.
It was around 9 p.m.; all was quiet.

It was quiet at 8 p.m.; and 7 and 6 and 5 and 4.
It was a quiet city.

I noticed that even in the midst of downtown, it was quiet.
Downtown was crowded, both with cars and people, yet it was
quiet. I then realized that in three days in Barcelona, I had
not heard one single automobile horn blow.

Not one. It was a MountainWings Moment.

Horns are often indicative of our state of patience (or more
accurately our state of impatience).

So why were there no horns? Why was it so quiet?
What did the Barcelonians have that allowed a city of over a
million to navigate through a maze of traffic with no horns?

This is an unscientific answer.
It is just a simple observation but maybe it has merit.

They take a break in the middle of the day.

As we took a tour of the city the guide explained to us,
"The stores don't open until 10 a.m. and they close at 1:30 and
reopen at 4:30 and close again at 8:30 or 9."

"What do they do between 1:30 and 4:30?" someone asked.

"The go home, eat, and take a nap," she answered.

We make our kids take naps because we know they need it.
We know it helps them.

Does that reduce the stress in Barcelona?

Is that the reason I heard no horns and the city was so quiet?

I don't know, but why don't you try taking a nap in the middle
of the day and just see if you feel less like tooting.

Let me know when you wake up.
