Captain Reeves
==========

Captain Reeves needed my assistance to get 17.8 million out of
Afghanistan. At least that's what the email said. Of course, I
should believe him because he's a captain.

I'm sure that in exchange for my "assistance," I would receive a
sorely needed reward of perhaps a couple of million for my
invaluable aid.

I could use a couple of million right now. I've got bills. I'm
sure that you could use a couple of million too, but the
likelihood of it coming from Captain Reeves from Afghanistan or
any other dubious figure from some foreign country is not only
unlikely, it's likely to drain you of what money you do have.

The thing about these scams is that they are still working.

The old version was a letter explaining that you had some very
large sum of money (usually millions) that was coming to you.

Once you calmed down and contacted your benefactors, they
expertly proceeded to extract money from you for various fees
required to get your millions to you. After all, what's a few
thousands to get millions?

The letters have now been replaced by email and the scams run
from displaced widows of military dictators to a foreign lottery.
How can you win a lottery that you've never played?

You would think that if they sent you the money up front that
you couldn't lose. Guess again. Our company or rather innocent
citizens were recently the victims of just such a scam.

Crooks sent thousands of envelopes containing a letter and a
$2,500.00 check. The letter claimed that the check was from the
marketing department of our company and they needed them to
participate in a marketing test. They needed people to deposit
the checks into their accounts and then send $2,250.00 by
Western Union to a foreign company. This would test how well
certain employees treated them. They kept $250.00 as payment for
their participation.

People actually fell for it and two weeks later they got a note
from their banks saying the check was a fraud and the bank was
charging them for the entire $2,500.00.

Sooner or later Captain Reeves (or perhaps General Sincere) will
contact you with some seemingly too good to be true deal.

Remember this MountainWings Moment so that you won't have a
Misery Moment.
